Defined as a decrease in all three blood cell lines in the peripheral blood:
- Anemia is defined as hemoglobin level < 12 g/dL in women, < 13 g/dL in men, and < 11.-11.5 g/dL in children depending on the age according to the World Health Organization.
- Leukopenia is defined as a white blood cell count < 3.6 × 109/L in adults.
- Thrombocytopenia is defined as platelet count < 150 × 109/L.
