How is Babesiosis treated?

• Antibiotics:
  • Atovaquone and azithromycin, or
  • Clindamycin and quinine
• Red blood cell exchange transfusion for patients with Babesiosis who have one or more of:
  • Parasitemia > 10 percent
  • Severe hemolysis (hemoglobin <10 g/dL)
  • Pulmonary, liver or renal impairment
