Scott C. Kogan MD is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. In 1986 he began working in the field of coagulation medicine and biology under the guidance of Dr. Jane Gitschier, a noted geneticist who had recently cloned and characterized the F8 gene. He has done research on a range of hematologic disorders including postdoctoral work with Dr. J. Michael Bishop on the molecular pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia, ongoing studies of acute promyelocytic leukemia, and recent investigations of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia and of anticoagulation therapy in older adults. Beginning in 1997 Dr. Kogan has led an ongoing teaching conference in coagulation medicine for trainees at all levels. Dr. Kogan is the head of the coagulation clinical laboratory at UCSF and is clinically active in laboratory and tissue aspects of hematology/hematopathology. Former opportunities Dr. Kogan has enjoyed have been chairing the Hematopathology Subcommittee for NCI’s Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium and chairing the Scientific Committee on Hematopathology & Clinical Laboratory Hematology for the American Society of Hematology.
