Jane Maienschein, PhD specializes in the history and philosophy of biology focusing on embryology, genetics and cytology. She combines detailed analysis of epistemological standards, theories, laboratory practices and experimental approaches with study of the people, institutions, and changing social, political and legal context in which science thrives. She is committed to public education about biology and its human dimensions. Jane has received numerous faculty and teaching awards, including Arizona Professor of the Year from CASE/Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 2010. She is Parents Association Professor, Regents Professor, President’s Professor, and University Professor at Arizona State University. Her most recent project explores regeneration across all scales of life and the history and context of synthetic cells.
