360° Topic Modules Overview

A New Integrative Approach
to Medical Education

Our 360° Topic Modules are designed as one-stop hubs for hematology diseases, far more comprehensive than what you’ll find in textbooks or standard online references.

Beyond the Traditional Textbook

What traditional medical textbooks and online references have offered for over a century is a narrow, standardized view of disease, typically confined to a handful of headings: pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

These categories, while essential, represent only a sliver of the full story.

Our Approach: The Hub-and-Spokes Model

At The Blood Project, we take a far more expansive and multidimensional approach. Using a hub-and-spokes model, each disease is anchored by a central landing page (the “hub”) that links out to a wide array of “spokes” or subtopics. These include the conventional headings found in textbooks, but extend well beyond them.

Breadth of Content

We go beyond the core clinical domains. You’ll also find topics rarely gathered in one place:

  • History of Medicine
  • Eponyms
  • Evolutionary Perspectives
  • Comparative Physiology
  • Patient Narratives
  • Ethical Considerations
Axis 02

Variety of Formats

Learning isn’t limited to text. We use a multimedia approach with formats rarely found together:

  • Infographics
  • Podcasts
  • AI Explainer Videos
  • Expert Video Lectures
  • Peripheral Smears
  • Case Studies

We incorporate temporal dimensions, such as the evolutionary history of a disease and its development through the history of medicine. We also integrate spatial dimensions, exploring how a disease interacts with other organ systems and how it fits into broader taxonomic frameworks alongside similar conditions.

Equally important is how we deliver this content. Traditional resources rely heavily on text and the occasional figure. We, by contrast, provide a multimedia learning experience that includes interactive tutorials, infographics, video lectures, podcasts, case studies, and more. This diversity in teaching modalities creates a richer, more engaging, and ultimately more memorable exploration of each disease.

In short, our aim is to reimagine how we teach and learn about blood-related conditions by offering a comprehensive, contextual, and creatively delivered educational experience.

Navigating a Topic Module

Here’s how to find your way around once you’re inside a module.

📑

Left Navigation Pane

Use the scroll bar on the left-hand navigation pane to move easily between sections. You don’t need to follow any particular order; feel free to jump around and explore whatever interests you.

🗂️

Sections & Spokes

Each module is organized into a series of sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of the disease. For example, diagnosis, treatment, or the history of medicine. Some sections are structured around content types or platforms, such as short videos or infographics.

📚

Digital Library Catalogue

Aside from a few introductory sections, most sections do not contain original content themselves. Instead, they function like a digital library catalogue: click on any tile, and you’ll be taken directly to the relevant case study, video, podcast, or other content.

🧩

Explore Freely

There’s no required order. Each spoke is self-contained, so you can explore based on your clinical questions, learning goals, or curiosity. Start with pathophysiology, jump to patient narratives, or dive into the art. It’s entirely up to you.

Example Sections Within a Module

A typical module may include some or all of the following sections:

Clinical
Media & Formats
Humanities
Support & Guides

How Tiles Work

Within each section, content is organized into clickable tiles. Each tile links directly to a specific piece of content: a case study, video lecture, podcast episode, infographic, or other resource. Simply click a tile and you’ll be taken straight to it.
