What are the more common causes of monocytosis?

Reactive (secondary):

  • Viral or bacterial infection
  • Corticosteroids
  • Malignancy
  • Postsplenectomy state
  • Autoimmune disorders (such as inflammatory bowel disease or sarcoidosis)
  • Vasculitides

Clonal (primary):

  • Monocytic leukemia
  • Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia
  • Mastocytosis
