  • Cardiopulmonary disease
  • High altitude
  • Hereditary hemoglobin mutations associated with high oxygen affinity
• Inappropriate release of erythropoietin from:
  • Oxygen sensing cells in the kidney, including renal disorders and drugs
  • Tumor cells
