Should I screen my patient with newly diagnosed heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) for upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT)?

Only if the patient has an upper-extremity central venous catheter, or has signs or symptoms suggestive of upper extremity DVT.
