How is Glanzmann thrombasthenia classified?

Three types:

  • Type I – quantitative reduction in glycoprotein αIIbβ3 levels (< 5%)
  • Type II – quantitative reduction in glycoproteins αIIbβ3 levels (5%-20%)
  • Type III – qualitative abnormalities that prevent function while allowing reduced or even normal platelet surface expression of glycoproteins αIIbβ3
