| Findings | Contracted cells that are similar in appearance to acanthocytes (caused by ATP depletion) and increased numbers of reticulocytes which are smaller than normal reticulocytes, possibly owing to selective depletion of larger/younger reticulocytes. Patients with PK deficiency may present with splenectomy, resulting in present of Howell Jolly bodies on peripheral smear. |
