Physical Exam

The following describes this patient’s physical exam when you see him in the emergency room:

General appearance: Resting comfortably, in no obvious distress

Vital signs: Heart rate 113/min, blood pressure 109/64 mmHg, respiratory rate 13/min, T 98oF

Head and neck: No lymphadenopathy

Chest: Normal to inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation

CVS: S1, S2, no extra heart sounds, no murmurs

Abdomen: Soft, non-tender, no hepatosplenomegaly, incision from hernia repair, not bleeding

CNS: No focal changes

Extremities: Left leg larger and colder than right leg. Ecchymoses on the left thigh from groin to 2-3 cm above the knee. Peripheral pluses detectable by Doppler.
